About Ratha-korn Vilaichone

Professor Vilaichone received his MD, Ph.D (Medicine) and post graduate training in internal Medicine and Gastroenterology from Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand and continued his training as postdoctoral fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, USA by International Training Grant of American College of Gastroenterology (ACG). Professor Vilaichone was also a Secretary General of Gastroenterology Association of Thailand (GAT) in 2014-2016. Currently, Professor Vilaichone is a Chief, Excellence Center in Digestive Diseases Research of Thammasat University, Thailand, Vice Dean, Research affair and Innovation, Chulabhorn International College of Medicine (CICM), and Assistant to the Rector in Academic Affair, Thammasat University, Thailand

Professor Vilaichone’s research interests consist of H. pylori infection, Microbiota, FMT, Gastric cancer, GERD, NSAIDs, GI bleeding and Hepatocellular carcinima. He has more than 100 international publications and received 31 academic awards. Professor Vilaichone is a reviewer for many scientific journals eg. American Journal of Gastroenterology, European Medical Journal, Canadian Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Plos one and Helicobacter. In addition, Professor Vilaichone is a fellow of American College of Gastroenterology (FACG) and American Gastroenterology Association (AGAF).

About Tiing Leong Ang

Professor Tiing Leong Ang is Chief and Senior Consultant at the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Changi General Hospital, SingHealth, Singapore.

Professor Ang is Clinical Professor at Duke-NUS Medical School and Adjunct Professor at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore.

He has subspecialty clinical interests in pancreaticobiliary diseases, image enhanced endoscopy and endoscopic resection of early GI neoplasia, and advanced therapeutic endoscopy, in particular therapeutic ERCP and interventional EUS.

His current research interests include the use of image enhancement technologies and artificial intelligence in endoscopy, pancreaticobiliary endoscopy, as well as H pylori and gut microbiome.

He is Chairperson of the Gastroenterology Residency Advisory Committee in Singapore.

He is Council Member of Academy of Medicine, Singapore, and Asia Pacific Association of Gastroenterology.

Professor Ang is past Chairperson of the Chapter of Gastroenterologists, Academy of Medicine, Singapore, and past President of the Gastroenterological Society of Singapore.

He currently serves as Deputy Editor for Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, and Singapore Medical Journal.

About Duc T. QUACH

Dr. Duc QUACH is an associate professor of Gastroenterology and vice chair of the Department of Internal Medicine, University of Medicine and Pharmacy at Hochiminh City (UMCH).

He currently serves as the vice president (International affairs) of the Vietnam Association of Gastroenterology (VNAGE) and Secretary General of the Vietnam Federation for Digestive Endoscopy (VFDE).

He was a research fellow of the Japanese Society of Gastroenterology in 2005 and then obtained the advanced fellowship of the Asia-Pacific Society for Digestive Endoscopy in 2009.

He received the Ph.D. degree in Gastroenterology in 2011 at UMCH.

He has published more than 100 reviews and original papers in local and international journals.

His interests include GERD, functional gastrointestinal disorders, Helicobacter pylori, screening strategies for early gastrointestinal cancers and advance therapeutics endoscopy.

He has received several awards including the Outstanding Presentation Award at the 14th Biannual Scientific Congress of Vietnamese Nation-wide Medical and Pharmaceutical Schools in 2008, the Medal of Creativeness from the Vietnamese Central Youth League in 2008, the Young Clinicians Program Award of the World Congress on Gastroenterology in 2009 and the Outstanding Teacher Award, Faculty of Medicine, UMCH in 2020.

About Francis Chan

Professor Chan graduated with honours from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. After completing postgraduate training as Croucher Foundation research fellow in Canada, he joined his alma mater in 1997 as lecturer. Rising through the ranks to become Professor of Medicine in 2005, and in 2010 the Director of the Institute of Digestive Disease and Associate Dean (Clinical), he was appointed Dean in 2013. Currently, he is the Director of Centre for Gut Microbiota Research at CUHK, and Co-director of the Microbiota I-Center (MAGIC) Limited under the [email protected] Scheme of the Innovation and Technology Commission, Hong Kong SAR Government.

An outstanding teacher, he received the Faculty’s Teacher of the Year Award for 5 consecutive years and twice the Vice-Chancellor’s Exemplary Teaching Award.

A world-renowned clinician-scientist in gastrointestinal diseases, Professor Chan has published over 500 full scientific articles in high impact international journals and his h-index is 109. His research on NSAIDs and aspirin-related gastrointestinal bleeding has led to major revisions to clinical practice guidelines in the U.S., Europe and the Asia Pacific region. His contributions to medical research have been recognized worldwide with many national and international honours and awards such as The David Y. Graham Lecturer; The Andy Martynoga Memorial Lecturer; 27th Seah Cheng Siang Memorial Lecture; Vikit Viranuvatti Plenary Lecture; and the 23rd AJS McFadzean Oration. In 2018, he was elected Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Thailand, and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree by the Osaka City University, an honour that only 12 doctorates were awarded in its 138-year history. He is the first Chinese and second in Asia to be conferred the International Leadership Award by the American College of Gastroenterology in 2018 to recognize his remarkable achievements and leadership in gastroenterology. In 2019 ExpertScape named him top 0.06% world expert in Aspirin, Helicobacter Infections and Peptic Ulcer.

He received the honour of JP in 2010 for his contribution to detecting silent SARS infection for Hong Kong citizens. In 2019, he was conferred the Silver Bauhinia Star for contributions to advisory and governing boards of public bodies in the medical and health sector.

About Jaw-town Lin

Dr. Jaw-Town Lin graduated from Medical School, College of Medicine, National Taiwan University in 1978. He received MD. / PhD. at Graduate Institute of Clinical Medicine, National Taiwan University in 1986.

He is currently the superintendent of Digestive Medicine Center, China Medical University Hospital in Taiwan. He is also the Honorary President of The Digestive Endoscopy Society of Taiwan (DEST), and the Honorary President of The Gastroenterological Society of Taiwan (GEST).

Dr. Lin is a physician scientist and gastroenterologist. He has actively involved in the basic, clinical, and epidemiological research of peptic ulcer disease, H. pylori infection, gastric cancer, pancreatic cancer, and gut microbiota. Dr. Lin was awarded with Marshall & Warren Luminal Gastroenterology Lectureship by Asian Pacific Association of Gastroenterology (APAGE) in 2015. He is now serving as the editorial boards of Gut, Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology and Therapeutic Advances in Gastroenterology.

About Francis Mégraud

Dr Francis Mégraud is Emeritus Professor of Bacteriology at the University of Bordeaux since September 2018, He obtained the diploma of Pharmacist and Dr in Medicine at the University of Bordeaux. He studied later at Pasteur Insttute Paris (Immunology), at the Institute for Medical Research, Camden, NJ, USA (cell biology) and at the Center for Disease Control, Atlanta, GA, USA (epidemiology). He was Head of the Laboratory of Bacteriology at Hospital Pellegrin, Bordeaux, France until 2017 and he is Member of the INSERM U1053. He was Head of the INSERM U853 from 2004 to 2015.

He created the National Reference Center for Campylobacters & Helicobacters in France in 1993, which he headed until 2017 and is one of the founding members and current Secretary of the European Helicobacter & Microbiota Study Group. He has been involved in the EHMSG yearly Workshops since 1988.

His interest for Campylobacters & Helicobacter pylori dates back to the early days after the discovery of these bacteria. He has been involved in epidemiological studies and clinical trials of H. pylori eradication. His main current interests are the role of H. pylori in gastric cancer and antimicrobial resistance.
